Buying a post office; saving a farm

Shannon Hayes, author of Radical Homemakers, writes in Yes! Magazine about her family’s experience trying to make the numbers work on her family farm, which unexpectedly leads to buying the local Post Office. An interesting story, particularly for those of us in rural places.

For most of my adult life, I’ve been a big believer in abundance; that the world has what we need. The key to happiness, and a major component for sustainability, is to recognize abundance when it presents itself, rather than fixating on scarcity. A scarcity mentality makes people greedy. It makes them frightened. An abundance mentality makes people feel secure, and that leads to generosity. We need more of that.
