Golden

Golden

Mercer County, Pennsylvania (July 2015)

It’s funny: this scene by a pond, suffused with golden brilliance, wasn’t silent but full of cricket and cicada hum. I could hear fish jumping, birds were singing and calling, my kids were yelling and playing with the dog.  Yet, we had just moved away from the city after 20 years there, and there were no mechanical sounds: no engines, sirens, helicopters, or horns. It was a golden moment of peace, still but not still, silent and yet full of sounds that proclaim “living things.”
