The blue heron leaps up like two reeds rising,
legs long stalks in the riverbank, plucked out
by their shallow, drenched roots.
On wide umbral wings spread far across the wind,
she glides into the canopy
and vanishes into her roost
until an eagle passes by,
drops a carp into the pool below.
