Beyoncé’s topology

Beyonce's topology

As the editor of Topology Magazine, I owe a big thanks to Beyoncé for her provocative submission to our February issue on bodies. It’s quite an honor to think our little online publication is on her radar.

But seriously, her new video for “Formation” is fascinating, and likely to elicit a strong emotional response no matter what your perspective. I enjoyed watching it with the themes of both place and bodies in mind, as she explores who she is as a black woman with Southern roots. And NPR has put together a handy overview of some responses to the video, along with the “clean” version (though you don’t have to wander very far to find the “dirty” one).
