Given our enthusiasm for food—the cooking, eating, and particularly, the sharing of it—the staff of *culture is not optional (the publisher of Topology Magazine) have translated this passion into a number of events called Underground Supper Clubs. The dinners travel around to different locations in Three Rivers, Michigan: a friend’s old barn, underutilized downtown spaces, the gathering place of a nearby community, a monastery, a historic theatre. Different menus are featured as well: Mediterranean, Indian, Italian, comfort food, seasonally-themed, and more!
Even if we weren’t accepting donations to support the Huss Project at these meals, we’d be tempted to host the events anyways. The process of gathering ingredients from local farmers, preparing the dishes together, sharing the finished product with others, and lingering long at the table can leave our bodies exhausted, but it is the type of exhaustion that is also deeply gratifying and full of joy.
