Artful dispatches from the places where we find ourselves
Larry-Michael Hackenberg worked as a registered architect in the state of Michigan and taught graduate design in landscape architecture at the University of Michigan and the University of Virginia, as well as drawing at the Albemarle Art Academy (Charlottesville, VA). He published The Green Wood House in 1976 (University Press of Virginia), and more recently An Earth Story (PDF available for free). When he was 18 years old, he began painting watercolor architectural renderings and later studied under master watercolorist Joan Hector. Retired in 2004 at the age of 62, he returned to the town of Three Rivers, Michigan, where he was born and raised and began painting watercolors as fine art. He currently publishes a weekly newspaper column entitled Cycles of the Earth in the Three Rivers Commercial-News with his wife and partner Becky Hackenberg.
