Christmas in my household isn’t Christmas without these window stickers. We use the same ones every year. They’re simple cut-out shapes in 3 colors—white, red, and green—with a slightly funky 1970s vibe. We keep them in an old chocolate-covered cherries box that we never threw away; that’s how we know where to find them every year. These are some of the first things we put up for Christmas and some of the last things we take down.

My mom bought them for her apartment when she was still single, back in the early 1980s, and like many of the ornaments on our Christmas tree every year, they’ve lasted ever since. They hold up remarkably well, despite the fact that they are over 30 years old. I think even small traditions like this one—reusing the same decorations, year after year—connect all our holidays together. Though they are cheap window clings, they remain invaluable to my Christmas memories.
