Finding Treasures

Three Rivers, Michigan (2016)

Kim Henritzy is the owner of Centsible Treasures, a consignment shop in downtown Three Rivers, Michigan in operation since 1999. Kim loves helping people find the treasures they’re looking for. Working with consigners and hearing the stories of the items that they bring in to sell is very rewarding for her as well.

The personalized service—despite the challenges of a small staff—is a unique offering of the store. “We keep wish lists for customers,” said Henritzy. “We’ll call them when we get something that we think they would like. It’s something we specialize in.” When asked what the average person can do to contribute to the success of her store and to the rest of the downtown retail district, she says, “Walk in the door! Buy stuff!”

Kim would love to see more opportunities for new businesses, such as start-up grants. Greater support for existing businesses, like mentorships and more concentrated marketing efforts, would strengthen the neighborhood’s economy as well. And, she has a suggestion for a large, vacant building downtown known as the White House: “I think it’d be a great place for an antique mall—my customers are always looking for more options. Putting housing on the top level would make it appealing, too.”
