Walking the Shoreline

Dock elongates winter cold, overwrought
with broken shells, white and purple fragments,
wood cake of seagull feathers, droppings.

Lampposts extend to the clouds,
like the calling arms of a lost mother.
Women march on D.C., Miami,
Boston, Chicago, nation a sea of pink.

The White House fixes its comb-over.
Day two comes to an end.

The lampposts extend higher,
quivering in the watercolored sky.
